New Music! - "Video Phone Remix" Beyonce Feat. Lady Gaga
I was expecting this video to be waaaaay better than it is. I feels like a sexed up knock off of most of Beyonce's other videos. There's sexy and then there's raunchy and this video straddles (no pun intended) the line. Also, I love Lady Gaga but she looks awful in this video. She doesn't hold her own in looks or talent at all here. Her people should have warned her about the machine that is Beyonce! You gotta bring your A+ game (plus your OWN hair and make-up team) to even hang. Whoever did Gaga's face and weave did her dirty! She should've kept her quirky wigs and odd sunglasses and kept it true GAGA instead of Beyoncifying herself. In short I like original version of the song better and hate the video!

SONG OF THE DAY "The Rain" - Oran "Juice" Jones
Oran "Juice" Jones was the first R&B artist signed to Def Jam. His 1986 hit "The Rain" from his debut album, Juice, peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100. This is one of my favorite records! The monologue at the end is classic!...."Don't touch that coat!" Lol!!

Istanbul Pictures!
Two weeks ago I traveled to Istanbul, Turkey for a gig. Masud was able to take a fews days off to come with me.
After a ten+ hour flight this was our welcome, lol!

We stayed at The Sofa Hotel Istanbul located at the heart of the chic shopping & arts district Nisantasi. I forgot to take a picture of the hotel but you can check it out here http://www.thesofahotelsandresidences.com/ The lounge I spun at was called LONGTABLE and it is located inside of the hotel.

Masud and I at the bar getting a drink before my set.

Spinning. Because of a misunderstanding I did not bring my serato box and was forced to spin on CDJs - which I never do. I actually had to get blank cds and burn copies of music to use just hours before my set. Ughhhhh! Anyway I made the most of it. Anji (pictured with me) is the GM for the club and took care of us the entire trip. She's from Mongolia!

The next day Masud and I hired a tour guide to take us sightseeing around the city. First we visited The Sultan Ahmed Mosque which is also known as the Blue Mosque for the blue tiles adorning the walls of its interior.

In the courtyard of the Blue Mosque

It's absolutley stunning inside. Honestly my pictures don't even begin to convey how massive and beautiful it is inside. The prayer area is lit up by a chandelier hanging from the ceiling.

The hand-painted ceiling. The mosque is lined with more than 20,000 handmade ceramic tiles.

Turkish nuns gathered outside

Next we visited The Basilica Cistern. According to Wikipedia it is the largest of several hundred ancient cisterns that lie beneath the city of Istanbul and is located South West of the Hagia Sophia on the historical peninsula of Sarayburnu. It is 9,800 square meters and was built in the 6th century during the reign of Byzantine Emperor Justinian I.

It's eerily beautiful inside. The cistern was used as a location for the 1963 James Bond film From Russia with Love.

There are actual carp living in the water!

Afterwards we went to see the The Obelisk of Theodosius. It is the Ancient Egyptian obelisk of Pharaoh Tutmoses III that was re-erected in the Hippodrome of Constantinople (known today as At Meydanı or Sultanahmet Meydanı, in the modern city of Istanbul, Turkey) by the Roman emperor Theodosius I in the 4th century AD.

Then we walked the streets of turkey for a bit. A political poster.

The Turkish flag. They were hung EVERYWHERE in the city. They have such national pride! Don't know who the guy is on this one though?

A Turkish pastry shop. You know my greedy behind couldn't pass up some sweets! Our tour guide pictured, treated me to Baklava!

Is there anywhere in the world that you can't get some McDonald's? Damn!

We also went to The Grand Bazaar. It is one of the largest covered markets in the world with more than 58 streets and 4,000 shops, and has between 250,000 and 400,000 visitors daily. It is well known for its jewelry, pottery, spice, and carpet shops.

Finally we visited The Galata Tower, a medieval stone tower in the Galata district of Istanbul just to the north of the Golden Horn. One of the city's most striking landmarks, it is a high, cone-capped cylinder that dominates the skyline and affords a panoramic vista of Old Istanbul.

We took the elevator as far as it would go and then had to climb a very steep stairway to get to the top. But it was totally worth it as the view was incredible. I need a better camera!

Inside the vistors center

A truly beautiful and historical city! I think I'm going back to spin there again in December! Thank you Istanbul!

SONG OF THE DAY "The Comfort Zone" - Vanessa Williams
"The Comfort Zone" is the second single from Vanessa Williams' second studio album, The Comfort Zone (1991). It peaked at number two on the U.S. Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and was nominated for the 1993 Grammy Award for Best R&B Female Vocal Performance.
This is another sexy 90's R&B jam. I usually play this and The Family Stand's "Ghetto Heaven" back to back because they have a similar vibe. Vanessa Williams looks amazing in this video!
And for good measure here is the video for "The Right Stuff", the debut single and title track off of her first album. One of the favorite new jack swing records!
